I’m starting to look at microscopes for the occasional SMD job, and the more I read, the more confused I get. On one hand, I don’t need a giant optical setup taking over my workbench since space is tight. On the other, I don’t want to buy one of those cheap fixed-zoom digital scopes and end up disappointed.
I already have a 27" monitor at my bench, so I’d rather go HDMI-only and skip the little built-in 7" screen some of these units come with. What I’d really like to know is if there’s a digital scope in the “reasonable” price range (not $500+) that actually gives you some flexibility with zoom or interchangeable lenses, instead of being locked into one magnification.
If anyone here has gone through the same debate and landed on a decent setup, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for you. Did you just pick a digital scope and live with the fixed zoom, or is there something better out there that’s not overkill for light, occasional use?
