Diagnosing relay failures and intermittent switching issues

You find yourself looking at a relay that just won’t behave, turning on and off at the most inconvenient times. Before you start swapping out parts without a plan, what quick voltage checks, continuity tests, or clever tricks do you use to pinpoint those elusive intermittent failures?
 
Cycling between heat and cold can reveal a lot. Use a heat gun on the relay and then spray it with freeze spray while you watch temp-sensitive failures will show right away. Also, keep an eye out for back-EMF spikes from inductive loads that can damage the contacts. If you have access to a scope, use it for diagnostics.
 
Start by checking the coil voltage it should stay steady at the rated level. If it dips under load or fluctuates, that’s your culprit.
Don’t forget to measure contact resistance at the switched terminals while it’s energized for any high resistance spots.
 
Try the wiggle test while it's running, jiggle the wires, tap the relay, and flex the board. If it starts clicking on and off, you've likely found a bad connection or a cracked solder joint. It's way quicker than waiting for your multimeter to catch the issue.
