Seb here. I’m a musician and have been tinkering with electronics for much of my life. Never really studied the science behind things. More from a perspective of learning what works and what doesn’t and what part should go where. But working out schematics has taken my interest lately as it forces me to really understand the why and what for certain parts go in specific spots and how adjusting certain values, adding or removing a cap or a resistor has an effect on the sound of a mic or amp etc.
So when I saw this forum open as a spinoff from groupdiy, I thought I’d join.
Initially I got to group diy looking for the Matador C12 pcb layout, but couldn’t find it. But in the process of searching I went down the rabbit hole of reading all the related posts of how to upgrade things like the Apex 460 and the likes, cathode follower etc. Very interesting as I have a few of this variety mic in my cupboard which have now all seen huge improvements on sound quality.
Currently I’m investigating some simple tube mic designs and building my own tube mic psu from scratch.
