You’re in the thick of putting a prototype together but suddenly you realize the amps are way higher than you’d want to mess with casually. One little mistake with the wiring or some shoddy insulation can lead to fried components or even worse.

So, when you’re dealing with high-current circuits, what steps do you take to ensure everything stays safe and reliable? I’d love to hear about your go-to practices and any lessons you’ve picked up along the way.
 
I learned the hard way once by melting a cheap wire during a build. Now I always use proper gauge wiring for high‑current projects, and it saves me a lot of headaches.
 
Back when I was putting together a motor controller, I made sure to double‑check all insulation and connections carefully. It saved me from frying a few expensive parts and taught me to slow down.
 
I used to rush prototypes, but after blowing a fuse early on, I started adding safety margins and using breakers. It keeps things reliable, less stressful, and gives me peace of mind while testing.
 
It’s not always useful, but I have a variac (variable transformer) that I can use to slowly power up circuits that might have spectacular failures if they’re powered up all at once.
