I've been playing with electronics since I was about 9 or 10 and when I discovered I broke my cassette recorder so now the speaker worked when it's recording I strung up some wires to get the speaker far enough away that it didn't feedback then I figured I could make a tape loop and use a low grade refrigerator magnet to fade the recorded tape and created my own Yankee stadium PA (like Lou Gehrig in pride of the Yankee's) I've been tinkering ever since. my latest thing to play with is a 1968 drip rail super reverb. I'm afraid I fixed it to well it always hummed before now it's ghost quite and has that just right sound (if you keep the bright switch off) I don't know what I did but tha'ts why I join forums.

Although you used acoustic feedback, there was a tape-based echo device called an “Echo-plex” back in the 1970s (at least that’s when Imdiscovered it). I believe it was used in the Chambers Brothers recording of “Time Has Come Today” if you remember that.

Intermittent hums are almost always caused by a loose connection (well, almost all intermittent anythings are loose connections) like a broken or cold solder joint. If you’re a “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” type, I’d leave it until and unless the hum came back. Then I’d check every ground connection in the unit.
