how to scan the neighbors wifi channel

I’m trying to optimize my setup and could use some help with wifi channels
I’ve got a USB wifi adapter on my PC, and I want to manually set it to a channel that isn't already jammed up by everyone else in the neighborhood

based on my scan, I can see plenty of networks, but I’m not sure how to see exactly which channel numbers they’re squatting on. is there a simple way to see a breakdown of who is using what so I can find a clear spot?

yep, @Ohmwardbound is right, software tools are available to help you visualize the wireless spectrum. since WiFi channels often overlap, simply switching to a different number might not fully resolve interference, luckily, most tools illustrate this overlap graphically

just remember that the AP dictates the channel, not your device. there usually an Auto setting designed to scan and select the clearest channel for both bands automatically
