I was keeping an eye out for the 15th gen Intel desktop CPUs but I lost track and now I still can't find any practical info beyond some "release date" articles so I'm not really sure what happened or how's it performing. What should I know about it?

@Huell Babineaux it launched pretty quietly and the reviews have been mixed. Most people say it is more of a refresh than a big jump, so you would not notice much unless you skipped a few generations. Honestly, it feels like Intel is just holding ground until the next architecture lands.

That was launched in October 2024 and they switched to a new branding scheme, which probably explains why you lost track. The new chips use the LGA 1851 socket, so you'll need a new motherboard. Intel also dropped Hyper-Threading on the performance cores, but focused on improving power efficiency and added an integrated NPU for AI workloads. And @Shiminet is right, its performance has been a bit hit-or-miss. While you might see some gains in multi-core tasks, they're not a huge jump over the 14th gen or AMD's latest.
