Non-technical skills that help with technical work

In the midst of all the coding, troubleshooting, and tinkering you do, it’s the non-technical skills that can sometimes have the biggest impact. What’s one non-technical skill that you find particularly helpful in your technical endeavors?

Man, for me, it's all about keeping cool. When I started messing with electronics, getting impatient always messed things up. Taking a breath and staying calm? That's saved me way more time than any fancy gadget ever could.

Seriously, just talking things out has been a game-changer. I used to try and fix everything by myself. But now, if I ask the right questions and describe the issue clearly, boom! faster answers, less stress on projects.

Figuring out the problem is key. I realized early on that if you spend a bit framing the issue right, the tech stuff gets way simpler and less of a madhouse.

How do I spend time away from making stuff? Playing with the stuff I make!

Besides electronics, I also hobby in woodworking and cars. Last year, I found out I still have the stamina to drive for 12 hours when I “rescued” my sister and her husband (and pets, and food, etc., etc., etc.) when their truck broke down on their way to visit us. I enjoyed the drive!

Now that’s what I call a great break, actually getting to use what you’ve made!

Woodworking and cars definitely fit into that category as well. And a 12-hour rescue drive? That’s some serious stamina!
