I'm fixing up my old Realistic shortwave receiver (made by Sangean). It's usually pretty dependable, but the shortwave tuning's acting up. The frequency synthesizer isn't working right.

I've checked the easy-to-reach capacitors, and they seem okay. I'm trying to find the service manual to figure out what's wrong. Any idea where I can find one?

You can locate the service manual for the Realistic model made by Sangean, probably the DX-390 or ATS-818, on either ManualsLib or the Internet Archive. Both resources include information on the frequency synthesizer sections, which can be really useful for diagnosing issues beyond just the capacitors.

I suspect the issue is likely with the PLL synthesizer. Check the crystal oscillator and the supply voltage to the synthesizer chip. Sometimes a simple cold solder joint can cause intermittent issues. Then for the service manual, if you don't find it on ManualsLib, try checking HiFiEngine and Elektrotany as they have huge archives.
