Best places to buy components, your go-to shops

We've all been there needing parts quickly or searching for a store you can really trust. Some folks are loyal to their local shops, while others prefer their favorite online retailers. What’s your go-to spot for buying components, and what do you love about it? I’d love to hear about the stores or sites you depend on

I usually just go to my local electronics shop. I've been going there since I was in college.

I like Digi-Key. I started ordering from them back in the day when I couldn't find some chips around here. They've always been dependable, with quick shipping and a massive selection

I use Amazon when I need something fast. When I first started doing hobby projects, it was the easiest way to get parts quickly without having to drive all over the place. I've found it useful for smaller parts and tools. But when I need something special, I still look at other places.

There don’t seem to be many parts houses around my neckmof the woods, even thoughthere is a major electronics firm headquartered here (Micron).

Digi-key, Newark, what used to be Allied all take small orders, and don’t require a tax certificate.

I've relied on Mouser a few times. They have a great selection, and their careful packaging is important for delicate components. Also, their parametric search really simplifies finding what you need.

DigiKey, Mouser, and Jemeco. The surplus outfits I relied on for many years are all going toes up. I've lost my top four this year. That hurts both my wallet and my imagination. One survivor so far is Electronic Goldmine. And Skycraft out of FL, a great source for quality wire and other stuff, too. Then there's ebay, but buy carefully. There are a lot of production rejects coming out of China that find their way from the reject bin onto the spot market.

It’s a bummer to lose those extra spots it definitely cuts down on the fun choices. At least the major suppliers and a few classics are still around.
