The real answer is, of course, “it depends.” If there’s any length to the run, maybe five feet, the resistive losses will be noticeable, more and more as the current goes up. E=IR and all that.
I’ve run 2A through 24ga wire, and it was OK, but 7A seems like you just might end up wit the wire acting like a blown fuse. Which could cause a fire.
